Program Will Focus on “The New Paradigm” of Cost-Driven Litigation Strategies

CHICAGO – August 22, 2012 – Hon. James M. Rosenbaum (ret.) has joined the faculty of HB’s conference titled Too Big to Litigate? A Judicial and Lawyer’s Forum on the New Paradigm of Cost-Driven Litigation Strategies, HB CEO Tom Hagy has announced.

Scheduled for Nov. 9 in Chicago, the program is being created in collaboration with chair Hon. Janice M. Symchych (former) and will feature both sitting and retired judges, in-house counsel from Fortune 500 companies, and leading litigators from around the country. Judges Symchych and Rosenbaum are now with JAMS Resolution Experts, the world’s largest private Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider.

Judge Rosenbaum is with the JAMS Resolution Center in Minnesota and practices nationally. Before that he served 25 years on the federal bench as a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Minnesota and for four years as Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney. Judge Rosenbaum manages disputes ranging from intellectual property and patent matters, complex and class action litigation, domestic and international, securities, civil rights, environmental and employment.

Judge Rosenbaum oversaw the construction of the Minneapolis federal courthouse, the most technologically advanced courthouse at the time. He served as Chief Judge of the District, represented the Eighth Circuit at the Judicial Conference for eight years and served on the Conference’s Executive Committee. He has also been named to Minnesota Law & Politics’ “The 100 Most Influential Minnesota Lawyers of All Time.” He graduated with his B.A. and law degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

A Critical Time for the Courts and Litigants

“I am honored to have Judge Rosenbaum join the faculty of what I consider a much-needed conference on how to address mega-litigation that is challenging the U.S. court system, as well as the companies and individuals engaged in complex disputes,” Judge Symchych said. “We are at a critical time in the history of our judicial process. I look forward to leading our faculty’s discourse and guidance in addressing how massive cases can be litigated effectively and managed financially.”

Judge Symchych is a veteran ADR professional and federal courts practitioner, with over three decades of legal and judicial experience. A former magistrate judge from 1985 to 1989, Ms. Symchych most recently served as Deputy General Counsel – Litigation at Medtronic, Inc. where she was responsible for company litigation worldwide, including intellectual property, multidistrict and class action, product liability, government enforcement actions and investigations, regulatory litigation, commercial, and employment litigation and advised on litigation risks. Her professional experience has been centered in the federal district and appellate courts, across the spectrum of federal substantive areas.
