Public and private companies are increasingly affected by ever expanding laws designed to encourage and protect whistleblowers who can earn large cash rewards from government regulators for raising a concern. Nowadays companies often receive hundreds of whistleblower reports every year, so determining how to focus resources is difficult. Challenges include:

  • the potential cost of ignoring or mishandling a whistleblower
  • how to efficiently respond to an initial whistleblower complaint
  • preventing retaliation
  • who and when to notify management and board
  • assembling the in-house team
  • how to scope an investigation
  • whether to conduct the investigation with internal resources,
  • how to effectively contact the whistleblower during investigation, and
  • how, when and if to disclose the whistleblower complaint to regulators
  • getting policies and procedures in place proactively

GrimeKennedyThis webinar is designed to provide guidance on these issues in a practical format for in-house counsel and compliance professionals. In this session, Laura Kennedy, Senior VP of Ethics and Compliance at SAIC, Richard Grime, Partner at Gibson Dunn and moderator Susan Frank Divers will guide you through the key issues and provide practical advice for dealing with these tough issues.

Before joining SAIC, a $4.4 billion technology integrator, Kennedy was head of compliance for Honeywell International Inc.  Grime‘s past experience includes over nine years in the Enforcement Division of the SEC, the last four of which he served as Assistant Director. Divers, the moderator of this series, is Senior Advisor with LRN. She also is the former chief of global compliance for AECOM.
