shugrueJohn Shugrue joined Reed Smith in July 2008 as a partner in the Insurance Recovery Group and is resident in the firm’s Chicago office. His practice focuses on representing policyholders in complex litigation and insurance coverage matters involving Commercial General Liability, Directors & Officers, Errors & Omissions, First Party Property and Business Interruption, Pollution Liability and Fidelity coverage. In addition to wide experience with all major U.S. insurers, he is experienced in litigation, mediation and arbitration with Lloyd’s of London, and other London and Bermuda market insurers. His significant representations have encompassed major U.S. policyholders such as Nicor Gas, Tribune Company, Kraft Foods, Valero Energy, Republic Services, and Anadarko Petroleum. After graduating with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1987, John began his legal career at Jenner & Block in Chicago. He became a partner at Jenner & Block in 1995. In 2000, he joined Zevnik Horton, a national policyholder firm, as a partner in its Chicago office. In 2003, when Zevnik merged with Morgan Lewis & Bockius, he opened and became the Managing Partner of Morgan’s Chicago office. John is recognized as one of the top policyholder practitioners in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for the past six years, and in Best Lawyers in America for the past three years. He writes and lectures often on insurance coverage topics, including business interruption claims, environmental insurance coverage, coverage for emerging areas of tort liability, use of ADR in insurance disputes, and special issues relating to Lloyd’s of London and the London insurance market. He has also co-authored the treatise Insurance Coverage Dispute, published by Law Journal Press. John is a former co-chair of the American Bar Association Litigation Section’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. He twice co-chaired the Committee’s annual meeting, and co-chaired a bi-partisan American Bar Association task force that prepared the Manual for Complex Insurance Coverage Litigation.

Brad Murlick is a Managing Director in the Insurance and Claims practice. Mr. Murlick has assisted clients worldwide on insurance claim recovery matters involving property/business interruption, fidelity/employee dishonesty, product recall, builders risk, and political risk, among others. He has also assisted numerous insurance brokerage clients in the defense of E&O matters involving property and casualty disputes and litigation. He has testified both at arbitration and federal court. Mr. Murlick is well published and frequently quoted in insurance industry publications. He has also appeared on NPR, CNBC, and Summit TV (South Africa) to discuss claim issues.

fleishmanBarry Fleishman joined Dickstein Shapiro LLP in 1996, and is a partner in the Firm’s Insurance Coverage Practice. Mr. Fleishman focuses on complex policyholder insurance coverage, and products liability. He represents major corporations seeking insurance coverage with respect to liabilities and losses incurred as the result of property damage, defective or misused products, natural disasters (including hurricanes), fires and explosions, environmental damage, discrimination allegations, directors’ and officers’ activities, and terrorist attacks. In addition to litigating insurance coverage cases, he provides general counsel on insurance-related matters. Representative companies for which he is providing, or has provided, national insurance coverage counsel include A.M. Todd, Inc.; AT&T; Archstone-Smith Operating Trust; Cantor Fitzgerald; Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A.; Merck & Co.; Mills Corporation; Northrop Grumman Corporation; Carnival Corporation; and the Royal Bank of Canada.  Mr. Fleishman currently serves as chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee, and has represented clients on constitutional issues involving privacy rights and illegal searches in schools.
