Filed in Superior Court in San Francisco, the complaint claims retailers and candy makers exposed consumers to lead in violation of Proposition 65, a law that requires notice of even minute amounts of chemicals that the state considers harmful.

As reported by The Huffington Post, the defendants could be fined up to $2,500 per day for each violation of Prop 65.  While not surprising, the companies weren’t talking to the press.  But the Associated Press (as reported by NBC), did secure a quote from Jennifer Marples, a spokeswoman for Whole Foods, who said only that the company is investigating the issue with its vendors.
